Martine Lersch was born in France. Before coming to Australia, 30 years ago, Martine finished a counselling course (with Adrienne Houri, a psychiatrist who had trained in the United States with Elizabeth Kubler-Ross) ; this course was called The Body and its Language. Through this course, amongst other things, Martine developed a gift in observation which has helped her in NEU.WAYS. On her arrival in Sydney, Martine realised her life long dream of becoming a Primary school teacher. Martine was always drawn towards children with Learning Difficulties, and as a consequence, 20 years ago, she studied the Extra Lesson with its founder, Audrey McAllen, from Essex, UK. The Extra Lesson is the Special Education method following the Steiner/Waldorf philosophy of education. In the same course, Audrey McAllen also gave some indications about the reading of Children’s Drawings. Martine taught in Public and Steiner Primary schools for a number of years before concentrating solely on working with her therapy : NEU.WAYS.

In 20 years of practice, Martine synthesised her original knowledge and transformed it into NEU.WAYS as she now teaches and practises it.

It includes:

  1. -Developmental Psychology, especially neurological development of the foetus  (which is the accepted basis of Developmental Psychology)

  2. -Study of all Primary (Primitive, Early) reflexes

  3. -Development of observational skills to recognise the reflexes

  4. -Exercises which help the integration/inhibition of the Primary reflexes*

  5. -Interpreting Children’s Drawings**

  2. You Can Read, 1988, written by Lancelot Johnswood - who was a Special Education Teacher in South Australia.                                                                                The Extra Lesson, by Audrey McAllen, 1990.
